Collages by Claudio Parentela
Born in Catanzaro, Italy, where he lives and works, Claudio Parentela is an illustrator, painter, photographer, mail artist, cartoonist, collagist, and freelance journalist. He collaborates with many zines, magazines of contemporary art, literary magazine and comics in Italy and around the world.
Claudio submitted some collage work to Pink Things. The imagery contains high fashion models, a disguising of the figure, and an almost grotesque handling of the original images, framing the, almost exclusively, female models as monsters of sorts, or perhaps the campaigns using the models. Are they a commentary on consumer culture? Each manipulation of an image creates a new narrative and gives a new meaning within the frame. Sudden placements of collages, then photographed, provide an deeper narrative based on the pieces surroundings. Whimsical and a little frightening, these collages will give you something to think about for sure.
