Jasmine De Silva: How To Build Your Human
"How to build your human acts as an instruction tutorial, contrasting between the YouTube makeup tutorials, and the vintage 1960’s instructional tutorials of how to be the perfect woman.
The project contains literal imagery and concepts of how we construct ourselves on a daily basis, yet is indicative of how these small daily routines are part of the perpetual state of striving for a flawless appearance. We construct, de-construct and re-construct ourselves, perpetuating the endless cycle to achieve perfection. Along the way, we discard what may be beautiful and geuine, as if we are disposable. Constantly striving for this idealized state of aesthetic beauty is exhausting, and we can often take it a step too far.”
Jasmine is a London-based fashion photographer, creative director, and filmmaker. Born in the UK, Jasmine started pursuing photography at the age of 16. She has since studied and worked in Milan, and completed a BA in Fashion Styling and Photography at the London College of Fashion, where she is now in the final term of her Master Degree. Jasmines’ photography has also developed into film. She often works with bold colour palettes, and expresses concepts of the human desire to strive for perfection.
